JEEViKA: Begusarai
JEEViKA started its operation in Begusarai in 2013. In the first phase that is in December 2012 operations were started in Bachhawara, Bakhari, Birpur, Cheriabariyarpur, Chhaurahi, Dandari, Gadhpura, Khodabandpur, Mansurchak, Naokothi & Sahebpur kamal Block. In March 2014 JEEViKA extended its work in rest seven Blocks Balia, Begusarai, Barauni, Bhagwanpur, Matihani, Shamho and Tegra.

Institution Building & Capacity Building
JEEViKA through self-select approach has organised all poor women into community-based institutions like SHG, VO, and CLF. These institutions provide voice, space and resources to women.

These institutions are ‘of the poor’ and ‘for the poor’ and enable them to partner with local self-governments, public service providers, banks and other institutions.
JEEViKA Begusarai has been able to reach All Panchayat by January 2023. It has been able to form institutions in all villages. 27568 SHG has been promoted by JEEViKA. Total of 331631 rural poor households has been mobilised into SHG. 221 Differently abled SHG has been promoted by Jeevika. Total 1026 Differently abled households have also been mobilised into institutions. 1996 Village organisations are formed to help SHGs in getting higher order services. There are 55 cluster level federation in the district with aim to regulate, manage and provide better services to SHGs and VOs.
Microfinance
Microfinance is type of banking service provided to underserved or low-income population who otherwise would not have access to formal banking services. It allows SHG members to take small loans safely in order to start small businesses. Over the years Microfinance activities promoted by JEEViKA has evolved and now not only credit services but also insurance, other services are being provided to SHG members. JEEViKA operations of more than 15 years shows that poor repay their loans and are willing to pay the monthly dues if they can access credit at reasonable rates. It is widely accepted that financial services are essential for reducing poverty and JEEViKA Begusarai is committed to ensure that all SHG members gets financial services in order to leave a decent life. It has been working since 2013 and gradually progressed in financial inclusion. Below is table and graph of progress.

Livelihood
Livestock
Livestock plays critical role in shaping the rural economy. Its importance can be understood with the fact that livestock contributes to the 25.6% of total agriculture GDP of country. JEEViKA Begusarai has been working on poultry with Three mother unit already functioning in three blocks– Bakhari, Matihaani and Bachhawara. The 3 mother units in three blocks are helping 180*3=540 SHG members in the livelihood generation and in providing nutritional needs to their family members. Work on fisheries is also on the 10 ponds are getting allotted to JEEViKA by district administration to start fisheries operation in district.
Farm- PG and Crops
Under farm theme, the JEEViKA didis gets training on how productivity can be increased. Exa-Intercropping, SRI and SWI techniques are discussed at the ground level by Village Resource Person and Staff. Time to time new techniques and insights about farming are discussed by farm manager with community and cadres. JEEViKA didis are trained on system of crop intensification are taught to use line sowing method for growing pulses. For Mushroom cropping JEEViKA didi are taught to grow oyster for self-consumption as well for selling.
64 agriculture producer group has been formed in Begusarai. More than 86964 household are practicing kitchen garden. There is plan for opening more PGs in district. 179677 households are involved in one or other farm activity of JEEViKA.
Custom Hiring Center– Twenty seven custom hiring centres are working in Begusarai district. These custom hiring centers are helping more than 10000 female farmers of district to get timely machine support and helping in reducing input cost in farming.
Non-Farm
Non-farm sector in recent years has got lot of recognition because of several reasons such as it checks on the unregulated migration and it has the potential to generate jobs in rural areas. Also it has been found that rural societies participate much more intensively in non-farm activities and it helps in increasing social mobility.
JEEViKA Begusarai is promoting several local non-farm based enterprises such as Bambo Art, Sikki, Art and Craft etc. 05 Grameen Bazar (Rural Retail Shop) is perating in Begusarai district in Blia, Sahebpur kamal, Bakhari, Barauni, and Gadhpura Block. It is a B-2-B venture by JEEViKA. It provides genuine products to JEEViKA didis who are share holder of that Grameen Bazar and owns Kirana Shop. Total Fourty eight non-farm producer group is their in Begusarai. 70413 micro-enterprise has been developed. One Producer Company-‘Dhanyak women jeevika producer company limited’ is Sucessfully Runing in Begusarai. Total 05 DKR and 01 Stitching unit is also operating in Begusarai district.
